Author and Radio Personality’s Topics Include Alzheimer’s and All Things NPR
Charlie Pierce—nationally known author, radio commentator, and humorist—spoke to an enthusiastic audience at the West Roxbury Branch Library on Saturday, November 6. Pierce spent the first part of his presentation talking about his experiences coping with the impact of Alzheimer’s Disease on his family and on where we are as a nation in coping with this disease that affects more than 5 million people today.
Pierce then opened up the discussion to include his work on two popular National Public Radio programs, Only a Game and Wait Wait . . . Don’t Tell Me! He described how the programs were produced and answered questions. The audience learned that very little of Wait Wait is scripted and that the program was initially a failure, becoming successful only after changing the host and reorganizing the program.
