Summer Children’s Theater 2009

8th Annual Production Brings Cinderella to the West Roxbury Library

On two special days in August, after two weeks of hard work, nearly forty children took part in a delightful presentation of the classic story Cinderella. Ranging in grades from first through ninth, the students were involved in everything from adapting the script to making the sets to publicizing the event to acting the roles. Numerous parent volunteers assisted in the details of the process (including Flo Scott-Hiser, who took charge of the sets and props). The entire show was skillfully organized and overseen by this year’s director, Katie Fornaro (who has acted in this very summer theater the previous seven years). Katie, a theater major, will be a senior at the Boston Arts Academy in fall 2009.

Children’s librarian Gwen Fletcher conceived of the summer theater program, and each year she visits neighborhood schools in the spring to encourage children to audition. The support of the Friends of the West Roxbury Library makes the summer theater possible.
